This unique band play a mellow, yet funky style of jazz that features the wonderful “Hang Drum”. The “Hang Drum” is a recent invention that was made in Switzerland and sounds like a soft xylophone and looks like an inverted steel drum. They will be appearing on John Kelly’s Arts discussion show, RTE 2 on Tuesday night. We highly advises you to book your tickets before this appearance, as this type of concert usually sells out after TV appearances

Saturday’s concert takes place in Sligo’s new live music venue, upstairs in The Tobergal Lane Café, The venue held the two previous concerts of the Quattro Festival, Frisk Verden, Mike Nielsen’s new group,  and the unforgetable, classical, folk and yodeling trio “Netnakisum” from Austria.

On Saturday we will have the climax of the festival with a multicultural band led by a Sligo favourite, Congalese guitarist Niwel Tsumbu. Tickets €15/€12 Doors @8pm

Niwel and his band of the nations, features musicians from The Congo, Cuba, Germany, Hungary and even from deepest Donegal. The music is a mix of African High-life music, jazz, funk and classical. The band are followed by the “once a month” Moon club with DJ’s Pedro and Barra spinning an eclectic mix of music that will have all dancing till the wee hours!

There is something infectious about their energy and their style. They are all classically trained musicians but don’t want to play and present their music with the seriousness and stuffiness that surrounds their genre.

They made an official announcement that now they really are a quartet with a difference as they are now performing as a trio as one of their member quit last week.

This doesn’t change their quirkiness and energy we’ve witness an amazing cover of Bitney’s Spears’s Toxic.

You’ll hear them sing in perfect harmony and all the time maintaining the unique humour in everything they do as Netnakisum.

This concept is not especially anything new but it’s the humour and energy in which it’s presented in their live and recorded performances that makes it interesting and special.

As a group they gel together brilliantly and are real professionals with a natural flair for their instruments. Just like the reversal of the band’s name (the German word for ‘traditional musician’) they wish to turn their instruments inside out and their audiences expectations. It’s a fascinating overlapping of their vocal qualities with their instrumental sounds that makes this girlband something special.
